British Weightlifting Event Birmingham – The Rigs Fitness Open

The Rigs Fitness Open – British Weightlifting Competition – Saturday 20th May 2017

Weightlifting Competition Birmingham

An official Tier 3 British Weightlifting event held at Birmingham’s Multi Award Winning Gym, Rigs Fitness. Featuring both male and female weightlifters from all weight categories, lifting will start at 10am on Saturday 20th May. This will count as a qualifying event for Tiers 1+2 and standard BWL TCRR will apply throughout.

LIFTERS:

You will have to apply to lift using the BARS (non BARS entries will not be recognised), there are no prerequisites to lift in this competition other than you have to be an official BWL member. Minimum lifting age is 15 (if you have been 14 at any point in 2017 you will not be eligible to lift).

SPECTATORS:

All lifters are encouraged to bring friends, family and fans along to this event. All spectators will be charged £7.50 entry and this will grant you access to the competition all day (from 10am – 6pm). There will be hot and cold refreshments available to buy on the day as well.

Spectator tickets can be purchased using card or cash from reception at Rigs Fitness and are on sale now – these will be available to buy on the day. PrizeLifter at The Birmingham Open

The UK’s First Weightlifting Knockout Tournament With A Cash Prize – Affiliated with and supported by British Weight Lifting

PrizeLifter™ is an exciting new event that sets to redefine weight lifting as an entertainment. The concept features eight lifters from a chosen weight class competing in one evening for a cash prize. Featuring up and coming lifters as well as seasoned athletes each lifter will pair up in four initial quarter final rounds with winners meeting in the final. All lifting is held in one action­ packed evening of weightlifting that is guaranteed to bring fans flocking with explosive lifting action and party atmosphere all night.

The first PrizeLifter™ will be held at the BWL Birmingham Open on Sat 13th August at Edgbaston Stadium ­the weight class, Female Lightweights (<65kgs).

Also featuring on the night as an exclusive ‘First Time Lifters’ competition. 8 Male and 8 Female athletes with no previous weight lifting experience will step out onto the stage and compete in both the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk. The winner will be decided by the Sinclair Formula… (The Sinclair Coefficients are a means to compare different weight classes in Olympic Weightlifting – meaning there will be no strict weight classes on the night, just 16 athletes who want to lift their maximum!).

There are two very clear goals set out for PrizeLifter at The BWL Birmingham Open:

  1. To have an action packed night of explosive sports entertainment and for spectators and lifters alike to enjoy themselves
  2. To encourage more people to see what Weightlifting is all about and get involved in this exciting sport

Rigs Fitness – The Next Level Refurbishment

Rigs Fitness RefurbWe’re delighted to announce the full refurbishment of Rigs Fitness in Birmingham. Since opening in August 2012 Rigs has gone from strength to strength picking up a number of awards along the way and now it is time for the next level.

Listening to our members, reinvesting in our facility and studying the latest industry trends has allowed  us to upgrade our facility to the next level of fitness. The new and improved Rigs Fitness demonstrates an efficient use of space whilst being functionally and aesthetically stunning.


What we are improving…

Our matted class instruction area is now 1500sqft and includes a 20m indoor sprint track. This will allow us to increase the participant numbers in any one class and even have two separate classes running side by side. Perfect for allowing our fitness class timetable to run smoothly whilst letting other teams, athletes, trainers and members run sessions simultaneously.

Strength Training Gym Birmingham

Our strength area will now consists of 4 fully branded competition lifting stations. Each with a brand new 140kg competition lifting disc stack, and male & female lifting barbell. We will also have two power racks, hip thruster, glute-ham developer, 4 adjustable bench stations, soft plyo-boxes, jerk boxes, and dumbell & kettlebell racks up to 50kg.


Our boxing area will now include 4 heavy bags and a 16ft fully branded ring allowing for easier use during sparring and training sessions. This will also mean the boxing area can be an extension to our matted area, creating an extra 500sqft of matted space to run prehab, stretching and corrective exercise sessions.

Finally we will have a brand new reception area including finger print entry system technology, and an area where members can relax whilst waiting for their next session. We will also use this space to house our pro shop where you can buy all of your drinks, supplements and Rigs Fitness clothing and training accessories.

When?… Work is starting on Wednesday 16th December (the gym will be open for use again on Monday 21st December).

Open Weekend… We will be having an open weekend where we are offering free use of our brand new facility on Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th January 2016. This will allow any potential members to come down and see what we’ve done first hand. Fitness Classes will be included in this open weekend.

Bio: In 2007 I was invited to Campion Hill in Leamington Spa for a local Fourcross race. This was to become the start of my journey in competitive cycling in one of the most difficult disciplines, BMX Racing. I continued racing Fourcross and did the entire national series in 2008, in 2009 I set up and ran the Yeti UK Fourcross team where all 5 of us did the entire national series plus some high profile Dual Slalom races. By this time I wanted to start improving my results and decided the best way was to enter the Gym and start training there in order to develop more power and make myself more crash resistant.

Over time my knowledge of anatomy and proper nutrition grew and I started spending more time studying how to lift, eat and train. After getting hooked on BMX racing in 2010 I understood the flexibility, explosiveness and control needed by all riders if they are to make it to a high level. The next step for me is to race the entire 2014 European Calendar and to help others with their specific fitness goals through LR Personal Training.

Rigs Fitness: Finalists in the ‘Best Newcomer’ category at the National Fitness Awards 2013

National Fitness Awards Best Newcomer Rigs Fitness

This Friday 6th December the Rigs Fitness coaching staff will be at the Palace Hotel in Manchester for the 2013 National Fitness Awards, where this year we have been shortlisted for the ‘Best Newcomer of the Year Award‘.

In just being shortlisted it feels as if all the hard work and dedication that has gone into making Rigs the gym it is has been rewarded, so we look forward to a fantastic night surrounded by the best of the best in the Fitness Industry, and the National Fitness Awards certainly provide this!

We’d like to take this opportunity to send a massive thank you out to all of our dedicated members, athletes, team members, schools, colleges, and businesses who have used the gym since opening. It makes it so much easier to run a successful gym when you’re surrounded by such great people day-in day-out. 

We look forward to Friday night where the winners will be crowned! Fingers Crossed
